Its good to be home

I have just spent 2 weeks working on the Gold Coast and I can tell you it is great to be home in Mission Beach. The other good thing is that my Mum is here from Victoria to celebrate the festive season, which is just great. Her big ask is to see a Cassowary because when she stayed here in May she didn't get to see one, I have my fingers crossed for her!

Summer Storms

We had a really big huge storm in Mission Beach last night. It was a Light Show of extreme power. Amazing stuff. We lay in the warm swimming pool with the cold rain pouring down on our heads. All the while the sky lit up with what seemed like hundreds of flashes per minute. It really is a great time of year to be living in or visiting Mission Beach

I can't believe it is already December and that the lead up to Christmas madness is happening already. There is one thing I'm looking forward to and this is my Mum joining me here in Mission Beach this year, a tropical Christmas for her. A little bit of rain

It is so nice to be in Mission Beach right now, after a couple of really hot days it has started to rain and is cooling us down......yeah! The rain of course is very welcome for our gardens too.

Mamu Canopy Walkway

Less than an hours drive from Mission Beach will find you at the fabulous Mamu Canopy Walkway. My brother was visiting last week from Victoria so we went for a drive to see it and I'm glad we did. The rainforest experience is fantastic but added to that the engineering feat to get the walkway in place is really amazing. Well worth a visit....don't forget your camera like I did!

Rain.....

Its raining again in the north. Mission Beach was deluged yesterday with the first good rain of the season. Its why I love living in Mission Beach. The rain, the frogs, the thunderstorms. Ahhh.....just love the tropics!!

Mulgrave River Kayaking

Anyone visiting Mission Beach has a smorgasboard of fresh water rivers and creeks visit. I spent yesterday on the Mulgrave River in the Goldsborough Valley. Its only 30 minutes south of Cairns and 90 minutes north of Mission Beach. Its a truly magic spot. Don't forget to take the esky and BBQ though. Plenty of tables and chairs BBQ's and amenities.

Mission Beach hosted the annual "OnaMission Multisport Adventure Race" this weekend. I'm sure there will be a lot of sore bodies in Mission Beach tomorrow.

Stinger Season

There is an array of jellyfish (also called 'marine stingers') in Queensland's tropical waters. Stingers are of particular concern in waters between November to May/ June. In Tropical North Queensland we call this period 'stinger season'. It is once again coming up to "stinger season" here in Mission Beach so if your thinking about going swimming be sure to wear a stinger suit or swim in designated stinger nets.

I had the fortune to be invited out on Saturday again for a days sailing around the many islands located just off Mission Beach. It was just the most fantastic day. I would thoroughly recommend the trip to anyone who loves to be out on the water. Even if you are a 'local' make sure you give yourself a treat and go!! Its really worth it..

Great Barrier Reef

I have friends visiting Mission Beach from Victoria. Yesterday they enjoyed a fabulous day out at the Reef with Quick Cat, they were even lucky enough to see whales, how good is that. One of the little girls just loves snorkelling and cruised around with her Dad, while the other little girl enjoyed the glass bottom viewing boat with her Mum. A perfect day for everyone.

Happy Birthday

One of my friends here in Mission Beach is having a birthday today, she has now joined the 30's club, good on her and I hope she has a fabulous day.

Friends are visiting

I have some friends from down south visiting Mission Beach for the week. A bit of a shame that they have arrived to some wet weather, but that hasn't stopped them as they have headed off to Kuranda on the Scenic Railway coming back on the Skyrail. Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands will be happening at Calendar Park in Innisfail this coming Saturday Only $10 for adults and children under 10 are free. Gates open at 9.45am. There will be a free bus operating from Mission Beach on the day.Come into the Mission Beach Information Station to check out the timetable. Rock on!!

Night life in Mission

Golden Gumboot Festival

Tomorrow is Tully's annual Golden Gumboot Festival. The festival celebrates Tully's iconic Golden Gumboot, so if you would like to try your hand at gumboot trowing, ten pin (gumboots) bowling, gumboot golf putting or gumboot dancing, why not check it out! The action kicks of at 1.00pm at the Tully Showgrounds (this is about a 20min drive from Mission Beach).

It's been a while

I had some visitors to Mission Beach come in this afternoon. They were amazed at the changes to town as they have not been here since 1983. Its still as perfect now as it was then!

Scootering Mission Beach

After scootering around Magnetic Island on the weekend and having a fantastic time I think I will definitely be buying a scooter in the near future to zip around Mission Beach on. So much fun! So economical!!

Mission Beach Information Station

You may not know this but the staff in the Mission Beach Information Station can help you with any tour bookings from Cooktown to Byron Bay. Today I booked a Whitsunday boat trip from Airlie Beach, whale watching in Hervey Bay and Fraser Island 2 day tour, all for the one traveller. She thought it was fantastic because now she doesn't have to waste any holiday time organising it herself. That's what we do here, help you enjoy yourself.

Friends are coming back

It's only 1 more sleep to go before my friends move back to Mission Beach, I am very excited about that I can tell you. Plus I have friends from Victoria coming to visit as well, what a big day its going to be, many a drink could be consumed I think.

Greyhound & Premier bus passes

Remember if your travelling south and planning to visit places like Magnetic Island, the Whitsundays, Fraser Island and Byron Bay to name a few, then its a good idea to buy a Greyhound or Premier bus pass. Its cheaper and allows you to jump on and off at your leisure. Come in to the Mission Beach Information Station and we will tell you all about them.

Magnetic Island

I am driving from Mission Beach this coming weekend. Going to hire a scooter (only$35.00 for the day) and checkout the length and breadth of the Island. Its been 7 years since I have been there. I reckon if I didn't live in Mission Beach my next choice would be' Maggie'. I just love it there!!

Lots of visitors in town

I have had a busy morning so far with visitors to Mission Beach wanting to know what to do today as there is a bit of wet weather around. I have sent people to the Tully Sugar Mill for a tour, a drive into the Tablelands to check out the waterfalls and fig trees and off to Mena Creek to visit Paronella Park. All great options I think.

Home Sweet Home

I love this place.... I consider myself so lucky to have grown up in Mission Beach. To have the lush Rainforest surrounding my front yard of gorgeous beach. And I know that once I leave here to see the world, Mission Beach will always be waiting for me when I get back!

White Water Rafting

A little bit of rain

Finally on the 21st day of August we have had rain in Mission Beach, the first time this month. I woke up last night to the sound of rain on the roof, and it was good to hear. Of course being in Far North Queensland its not cold, a bit cooler maybe, but not cold.
