It's a lovely day for it and I hope its a great event for Mission Beach and particularly for all the people who have worked so hard to bring this festival together. Bingil Bay

Situated at the northern end of Mission Beaches, Bingil Bay is arguably the prettiest beach in a beautiful established but underdeveloped area. Originally the Cutten Brothers grew tea and tropical produce in the rich local red soil and loaded into boats in Bingil Bay bound for southern market. Mission Beach no longer produces tea however there are still many banana plantations here

'Drifters'....A Majestic Old Queenslander

Situated at the northern end of Mission Beaches, Bingil Bay is arguably the prettiest beach in a beautiful established but underdeveloped area. Originally the Cutten Brothers grew tea and tropical produce in the rich local red soil and loaded into boats in Bingil Bay bound for southern market.

I finally got to Cooktown!! That elusive place that one just never seems to get around to going to. But hey....it was worth it. I had the good fortune to go on a fabulous one day tour with one of the norths best tour operators, Adventure North. The trip took us up the coast road beyond Cape Tribulation...through awesome rainforest and across freshwater creeks. Stopping off at the famous Lions Den Hotel for lunch before going on to spend some free time in Cooktown. We came back via the inland way where the landscape changes to open plains and savanah. Just beautiful. It was a big day arriving back in Cairns at 9pm after a great bbq dinner at the historic Mt Molloy Hotel. I arrived back in Mission Beach by midnight. Mission Beach has a small country town feel, with a population in the vicinity of 3000. The township is made up of the villages of Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach. The town is laid back but has so much to offer local and overseas travellers. I took the Mission Beach Dunk Island water taxi over to Dunk Island from Mission Beach yesterday. What a fabulous day it was. We walked up to the top of Mt Kootaloo. It takes about 1.5hrs and is well and truly worth the walk. The view across Rockingham Bay and down to Hinchinbrook Island are some of the best you will see anywhere in the world. Bicton Hill

Bicton Hill is one of the locals favourite walks in Mission Beach, located just south of Bingil Bay. Magnificent views! This circuit track is 4km in total taking approx. 1 ½ hours to complete. The walk up takes you through breathtaking rainforest and the view at the top is worth every step!

Cardwell Taxi Charter Bus

CARDWELL: ANYWHERE, ANYTIME! For those trekking the Thorsborne trail on Hinchinbrook Island, the bus is available for transfers of up to 11 people from Port Hinchinbrook ferry terminal to Lucinda at the southern end of Hinchinbrook Island, and return from Dungeness, Lucinda back to Cardwell and Port Hinchinbrook.

The bus is also available to assist customers in shopping trips to Ingham and Tully as well as trips to the Mission Beach Markets.

Marysville Survivor Holiday

Mission Beach Aquatic Festival

I was really saddened to hear that the Mission Beach Aquatic Festival will not be happening this year. Unexpected expenses how found the committee unable to continue the planning for 2009. I wish them the best of luck in getting it back up and running for 2010, as I know it is a popular festival for Mission Beach locals and visitors.

Boar Busters Big Pig Shindig

If your looking for a different tour experience in Mission Beach then I suggest you book the Boar Busters "Big Pig Shindig". Boars are a big problems in the Mission Beach area for both the sugar and banana farmers and the rainforest generally. The Boar Buster's tour shows you the work they do in trying to eradicate the boars, it is both interesting and fun. After a fabulous lunch at the El Arish Tavern you make your way towards Innisfail to go to the 3.00pm feeding at the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm, stopping along the way to see other trapping methods that are used throughout the area. I had a really great day, despite the wet weather and I can strongly recommend this tour to people wanting to do something a little unusual.

Hinchinbrook Island

It is a perfect day here in Mission Beach again, and its the same for Hinchinbrook Island where I have sent my friends to enjoy the day cruise from Cardwell. They will get a chance to swim at Ramsay Beach, have a picnic on the walk from Macushla back to the Wilderness Lodge, and cool down with a drink at the bar, before boarding the boat for the trip back to Cardwell. Its only an hour drive from Mission Beach and a great way to see Hinchinbrook Island.

Stinger Nets

The stinger nets in Mission Beach are being taken out of the water, its time to swim anywhere along the beach again. This does not mean that you shouldn't still be aware when your swimming. Be safe and look after your fellow swimmers.

Coral Sea Kayaking

As you may have seen on a previous blog, my friends and I went sea kayaking with Coral Sea Kayaking on Tuesday. I can tell you that it was a fantastic trip, we depart from the beach at South Mission Beach and kayak across to Dunk Island. The weather was perfect for spending on and in the water. Its a full day "active" trip, so you do have to be prepared for some exercise but it is worth the effort to get across to the island on your own steam. Coral Sea Kayaking

Leanne who works here at the Mission Beach Information Station has gone out with Coral Sea Kayaking today for the fantastic day trip over to Dunk Island. Lucky thing she is. They certainly have scored a great day for it. The sun is shining here in Mission Beach after 2 weeks of almost non stop rain...again...............!!!!!!

The sun is back

I have friends visiting me here in Mission Beach, they have travelled from cold and wet Melbourne. Brought along on the trip is a new kite board which got a good workout yesterday down at South Mission Beach. The sun was out and there was a bit of wind around, the two things you need to make it a great day. It looks like awesome fun and I hope I get to have a go before they go home.

Mission Impossible (Beach Shuttle)

Good news for Mission Beach is that Calypso Coaches have taken over the running of the local bus, Mission Impossible ( Beach Shuttle ). This service links the 4 villages of Mission Beach on a daily basis, and this is something that we really need for both locals and visitors to our town.

Glad to be home!

I have been away from Mission Beach for 2 weeks, holidaying with my family in Victoria, and I can tell you that I am really glad to be home. It is good to go away every now and then so that I realise just how much I love living here. Halfway Stop

Mission Beach is approximately halfway between Townsville and Cairns. So if you are travelling along the Bruce Highway its only a small but very picturesque diversion to turn off the Bruce Highway and come and have a look around beautiful Mission Beach. If you drop into the

Its still raining in Mission Beach. Its been so wet in Mission Beach this year. Will it ever stop!!!

Its been raining for about 5 days straight now in Mission Beach. The weather man/woman says its going to be sunny sunny sunny from Tuesday onwards. Lets hope so. Mission Beach has seen enough rain so far this year!!

Lonesome Trio

The fantastic 'Lonesome Trio' are back in Mission Beach tomorrow night playing at Scotty's Bar & Grill from 6pm in the Front Bar. The duo have been coming to Mission Beach for quite some time now.
