On Tuesday we enjoyed a leisurely drive from Mission Beach to Innot Hot Springs, with a stop at the The Falls Teahouse in Milla Milla for a lovely lunch. We spent lots of time in the thermal pools at the Innot Hot Springs Holiday Village, although we didn't venture out to dig our own hole in the sand to enjoy the springs out in the creek. Save that for next time! I can recommend this as a great mini break, there are motel and 1 bedroom units, powered and unpowered camping available as well as Day Guest entry to the pools.

It's lovely to drive around Mission Beach and see the green lawns again, we certainly needed the rain we have had over the last week or so. Situated at the northern end of Mission Beaches, Bingil Bay is arguably the prettiest beach in a beautiful established but underdeveloped area. Originally the Cutten Brothers grew tea and tropical produce in the rich local red soil and loaded into boats in Bingil Bay bound for southern market. Mission Beach no longer produces tea however there are still many banana plantations here

'Drifters'....A Majestic Old Queenslander

Situated at the northern end of Mission Beaches, Bingil Bay is arguably the prettiest beach in a beautiful established but underdeveloped area. Originally the Cutten Brothers grew tea and tropical produce in the rich local red soil and loaded into boats in Bingil Bay bound for southern market.

This grande old 1950's dame is a traditional timber queenslander with timber VJ walls, hardwood belt rails, casement window, cathedral coloured glass, french doors, fan lights and all the trimmings.

Mission Beach

Mission Beach is a haven for backpackers. In Mission Beach backpackers have a chance to chill out between the rowdy nightlife of Cairns and Airlie Beach or can still choose to go hard with world famous white water rafting on the Tully River, skydiving onto the beach, snorkelling or diving the Great Barrier Reef, taking the water taxi to Dunk Island to do a spot of hiking, or heading out for some more nightlife at the local bars and restaurants. I finally got to Cooktown!! That elusive place that one just never seems to get around to going to. But hey....it was worth it. I had the good fortune to go on a fabulous one day tour with one of the norths best tour operators, Adventure North. The trip took us up the coast road beyond Cape Tribulation...through awesome rainforest and across freshwater creeks. Stopping off at the famous Lions Den Hotel for lunch before going on to spend some free time in Cooktown. We came back via the inland way where the landscape changes to open plains and savanah. Just beautiful. It was a big day arriving back in Cairns at 9pm after a great bbq dinner at the historic Mt Molloy Hotel. I arrived back in Mission Beach by midnight. Mission Beach

Mission Beach has a small country town feel, with a population in the vicinity of 3000. The township is made up of the villages of Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach. The town is laid back but has so much to offer local and overseas travellers. Local activities include skydiving, white water rafting, sea kayaking, SCUBA diving, snorkelling, walking tracks and secluded beaches.
