Johnstone River Crocodile Farm

Less than an hour drive from Mission Beach is the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm. I went there on Saturday morning for the 11am guided tour where the staff feed the crocodiles while telling us about them and the farm. They do this tour twice a day, again at 3pm in the afternoon. You can go anytime during the day but I find that its worth going on the tour. If your keen you can hold a snake and a crocodile, and you also get to feed the kangaroos that roam around the farm. My friend was very excited about holding the snake but I didn't find the need myself.

The Mission Evolve Music Fest is on again this year at Mission Beach. Yipeeee!! The venue is Dundee Park just a short drive from Mission. The date is 15th-17th October. Don't be square....be there!! Dunk Island

Had a fantastic day on Dunk Island yesterday. Went over on the Water Taxi which was a lovely way to travel. Did the walk to Muggy Muggy, and then almost got to the top of Mt Kootaloo before deciding it was time for lunch and a beer. Enjoyed them in the Planation Bar in the Resort before lounging around the cascade pool before it was time to head back to the mainland. Can't wait to go again! I popped into Castaways Resort at Mission Beach this morning for a coffee and a look at the renovations. WOW!!!...its totally gorgeous. The decor, the ambiance, the menu...all to die for. Mission beach locals are particularly well looked after with discounts on top of the already more than reasonable prices. You have to go and have a look .......its so worth it!!

Tropical Fruit Tasting

Green Island

I had a fantastic day on Green Island this week. Less than an hour ferry ride from Cairns and your there. They are really well set up for day guests as well as having accommodation if you would like to stay on the Island. You can snorkel, parasail, take a helicopter ride or check out the marine life from the glass bottom boat, or just hang out on the beach. They have shops, restaurants and a bar in an area surrounding the pool. If your feeling more active then I was you can take a walk around the Island. Had a great time at the Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve yesterday. We started the day off at 8.30am with Breakfast with the Beasts, and then followed the feeding times around the park. Hinchinbrook Island

Hinchinbrook Island is the largest National Park island in Australia. It's just over an hour drive from Mission Beach to Cardwell and then a relaxing 40 minute cruise to magical Hinchinbrook Island. Only fifty guests at a time can ever share the Hinchinbrook Wilderness Lodge experience. Choice of individual Treehouses and self contained Beach Cabins. The resort is and offers activities like bird watching, guided walks and snorkeling to name a few. On site is a licensed restaurant serving tropical Australian cuisine, a guest laundry, swimming pool and reading room.

Fishery Falls Caravan Park

Fishery Falls Caravan Park is on the way from Mission Beach to Cairns. It is a well presented park with outstanding gardens and really well kept amenities. They have powered and unpowered campsites, caravan and campervan sites, Kermit the permanent tent and 2 bedroom cabins. Mission Beach is a haven for backpackers. In Mission Beach backpackers have a chance to chill out between the rowdy nightlife of Cairns and Airlie Beach or can still choose to go hard with world famous white water rafting on the Tully River, skydiving onto the beach, snorkelling or diving the Great Barrier Reef, taking the water taxi to Dunk Island to do a spot of hiking, or heading out for some more nightlife at the local bars and restaurants.
The Mission Beach Information Station is the first place backpackers should stop on arriving in Mission Beach. You can see us from the bus stop so stroll across for a free map, loads of information on the local area and real fast internet.

The Mission Beach Information Station is a depot for Greyhound Freight. If you need something delivered to Mission Beach it can be put on the greyhound bus and dropped off here and likewise if you need to send parcels interstate we can arrange that for you too

Arcadia Beach Guest House Magnetic Island

A friend and I had the pleasure of staying at the Arcadia Beach Guest House on Magnetic Island on the weekend. Lots of good things about this place, first one being that its directly across the road from the beach so fantastic views to enjoy, only interrupted by the mokes, catamarans and kayaks you can use or hire. Next thing is that they have accommodation to suit everyones needs, there are studio suites, ensuite doubles, budget rooms, dorm rooms, safari tents and the self contained beach house. We stayed in the self contained Alma Bay Room, which was perfect for us as we prefer our own bathroom. Although even the share bathrooms have a bath so this is a bit of a treat for the backpackers as most hostels don't have them. There are two great communal kitchen lounge areas for everyone to use, and a wood-fired pizza oven. The character of the building lends alot to the feeling of hanging out in your own Beach House especially as you sit out on the front deck enjoying a cold drink or swimming in the pool that overlooks the beach. The other great thing for us is that we timed it so that we were there for BBQ night, it starts with drinks on the deck where you get to sit around with the staff and other guests getting to know each other, then you enjoy a meal that feels like your eating at home but you haven't had to cook it yourself. I heard that one of the biggest problems is that guests don't want to leave, they are always booking extra nights, now that is a good problem for them to have, and I can definitely see how that happens! Bicton Hill

Mission Beach has some great walking tracks, and one of my favourite is Bicton Hill. Magnificent views! This circuit track is 4km in total taking approx. 1 ½ hours to complete. The walk up takes you through breathtaking rainforest and the view at the top is worth every step!

Dunk Island is 4 kms off the coast of Mission Beach. The National Park areas of Dunk Island are divine. Dunk Island is known as “Conanglebah” or land of plenty and offers both relaxation and adventure, including easy and rugged walking tracks and stunning snorkelling opportunities. Where to eat in Mission Beach

Where to eat in Mission Beach, is a common question we get from visitors. We are lucky here that there are many great restaurants and cafe's located across the villages. I went out last night for a friends birthday and again had a fabulous meal at the new Spicy Thai Hut in Wongaling Beach, great food, great company and perhaps a drink or two was enjoyed by all. I can strongly recommend them for locals and visitors alike!

Etty Bay

Yesterday I went for a lovely drive from Mission Beach to Etty Bay. It was only 50 minutes and then you end up at a gorgeous beach at the Etty Bay Caravan Park. There is a takeaway shop for lunch and dinner, a stinger net so you can swim year round, and a resident Cassowary who wanders around the park at leisure. We had a great time sitting at the beach enjoying a glass of bubbly! Come into the Mission Beach Information Station and we will show you how to get there.
