Where to eat in Mission Beach, is a common question we get from visitors. We are lucky here that there are many great restaurants and cafe's located across the villages. I went out last night for a friends birthday and again had a fabulous meal at the new Spicy Thai Hut in Wongaling Beach, great food, great company and perhaps a drink or two was enjoyed by all. I can strongly recommend them for locals and visitors alike!

Etty Bay

Yesterday I went for a lovely drive from Mission Beach to Etty Bay. It was only 50 minutes and then you end up at a gorgeous beach at the Etty Bay Caravan Park. There is a takeaway shop for lunch and dinner, a stinger net so you can swim year round, and a resident Cassowary who wanders around the park at leisure. We had a great time sitting at the beach enjoying a glass of bubbly! Come into the Mission Beach Information Station and we will show you how to get there.

Cyclone Olga

Well we have our second cyclone of the season in FNQ, Cyclone Neville fizzled out and now Cyclone Olga looks like she will hit land this afternoon up near Cooktown. We have been lucky here in Mission Beach with only a bit of wind and rain around today, but we are certainly thinking about the people who will be affected up north. If your traveling around then please be careful on the roads!

I had the pleasure of dining at Mission Beach's newest restaurant Spicy Thai Hut on Tuesday night. Thai food is a real favourite of mine and I can tell you the meals were fantastic. They are located in Wongaling Beach and you can dine in or takeaway. So I strongly suggest you go in and check it out!

My sister and brother-in-law came to visit me here in Mission Beach. On Saturday we had a fabulous day with Coral Sea Kayaking. We sea kayaked over to Dunk Island, lunching and snorkelling on Coconut Beach on the far side of the Island. The wildlife put on a bit of a show for us, we saw turtles, sting rays, flying fish and a small shark. It was awesome to visit Dunk Island under our own steam, there is a real sense of achievement when you get back to South Mission Beach at the end of the day. This is one tour I can strongly recommend!!!!!

Lacey Creek Walking Track

A favourite amongst the locals in Mission Beach! The track is about 7 km out of town, is 1.2km long, and extremely beautiful. Informative signage, fish viewing platform and a chance of seeing the elusive cassowary make this a terrific walk. Toilet and picnic facilities available. The Rainforest did suffer significant damage from Cyclone Larry (2006) which provides visitors with a unique opportunity to see the rainforest's regeneration process.

We spent lots of time in the thermal pools at the Innot Hot Springs Holiday Village, although we didn't venture out to dig our own hole in the sand to enjoy the springs out in the creek. Save that for next time! I can recommend this as a great mini break, there are motel and 1 bedroom units, powered and unpowered camping available as well as Day Guest entry to the pools.

It's lovely to drive around Mission Beach and see the green lawns again, we certainly needed the rain we have had over the last week or so. Mission Beach is known for its Cassowary population, but those of us who live here know that seeing one is not an everyday occurrence. During the week I was lucky enough to see a juvenile cassowary up close.....he or she was very curious indeed. I always think if I see one then its going to be a good day! So if you live in or are visiting South Mission Beach then keep a watch because you may be lucky too!!!

Mission Evolve Music Fest

Well today is the day for the Mission Evolve Music Fest. It's a lovely day for it and I hope its a great event for Mission Beach and particularly for all the people who have worked so hard to bring this festival together. So if your a local or a visitor looking for something to do today get out to Dundee Park on the El Arish - Mission Beach Rd and join in the fun. Tickets are $30.00 at the gate! Bingil Bay

Situated at the northern end of Mission Beaches, Bingil Bay is arguably the prettiest beach in a beautiful established but underdeveloped area. Originally the Cutten Brothers grew tea and tropical produce in the rich local red soil and loaded into boats in Bingil Bay bound for southern market. Mission Beach no longer produces tea however there are still many banana plantations here

'Drifters'....A Majestic Old Queenslander

Situated at the northern end of Mission Beaches, Bingil Bay is arguably the prettiest beach in a beautiful established but underdeveloped area. Originally the Cutten Brothers grew tea and tropical produce in the rich local red soil and loaded into boats in Bingil Bay bound for southern market.

This grande old 1950's dame is a traditional timber queenslander with timber VJ walls, hardwood belt rails, casement window, cathedral coloured glass, french doors, fan lights and all the trimmings.

Soak away your worries in the claw foot bath which features exposed trombone taps and a shower over the bath.

Mission Evolve Music Fest

A great new music festival has started this year in Mission Beach. The Evolve Music Festival will be held over the weekend of 17th/18th October. With 17 bands playing, markets, workshops, food stalls is going to be a hoot of a weekend. Camping available. Tickets can be purchased at the Mission Beach Information Station for $25. I'm back home in Mission Beach after a couple of chilly, actually very chilly days visiting a friend in Canberra. It's always lovely to go away but even better to come home.
